Couldn’t love this more if I tried!
It becomes disconcerting, almost excruciating how the worldwide jungle that is the internet becomes a transgression like portal for outpourings of aversion to homosexuality. Here, in the 21st century, our nonchalant attitude to homosexuality is impinged by this mass proliferation of online media in westernised culture.
For instance, University of Alberta’s Institute for Sexual Minority Studies and Services (iSMSS) counted tweets that use homophobic terms and found that in just a week people had tweeted the following: ‘Faggot’ in 2.4 million tweets; ‘Dyke’ in 300,000 tweets; ‘No Homo’ in 800,000 tweets and “So Gay” in 800,000 tweets.
